Director's Statement

Director/Writer Rohan Khublall
"I've wanted to make a film in an ice skating rink for as long as I can remember. I love the location and the feel you get when you enter into that kind of establishment; it's like nothing else around. The people who work there are always the most interesting and eclectic characters themselves and they always seem to be understaffed and young "high school-aged" employees who couldn't care less about the place. It's such a sad and beautiful location; even the building itself always seems to be on it's last legs, barely staying open. There are just so many great moments that happen all around you in an ice rink and I wanted to capture that. I also wanted there to be a character who is in conflict with the building itself and what it represents, the freedom and joy of ice skating. That was when Natalie came into the picture, and she sort of represents everything that the building is. She has a glorious past, living in her sad demeanor and she cares so much for the place. I wanted her to care a lot, even when no one else did. That's what makes her hold on, that's why these places still exist and I wanted to show that to people."
